A Dictionary of the Bhotanta or Boutan Language - Gyan Books
About The book: A Dictionary of the Bhotanta or Boutan Language by Frederic Christian Gotthelf Schroeter, posthumously prepared by William Carey, is a pioneering linguistic work on the Tibetan language. Schroeter, a German missionary, began extensive studies of Tibetan while stationed in Titalya near Darjeeling, translating a Capuchin Tibetan dictionary from Italian into English and compiling his own English-Tibetan dictionary and grammar. After Schroeter’s untimely death in 1820, Carey and John Clark Marshman edited and published his manuscripts in 1826 at Serampore. The dictionary provides comprehensive vocabulary, definitions, and linguistic insights, serving as an essential resource for scholars, missionaries, and linguists studying Tibetan and Bhutanese language and culture.
